Today, X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer tweeted out the following:

Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen#DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver.

Normally that’d be pretty sweet, but there’s just a little problem: director Joss Whedon has publicly announced that Quicksilver would appear (alongside his sister, better known as the Scarlett Witch) as a character in Avengers 2 (albeit that Whedon can’t use the word mutant or make specific reference to the fact these characters are the children of X-Men villain, Magneto). So, this tweet from Singer kinda flies in the face of that, yeah?

Here’s what we know so far: Quicksilver will appear in both films. Days of Future Past, since it comes out first (July 18, 2014), will probably get the first shot at defining how the character will appear on the screen (however, Drew McWeeny at HitFix reports that Quicksilver’s inclusion in Days of Future Past is all based around a “sequence that he [Singer] feels only works with” the character – so there’s a question as to much actual character development we’ll see with him in the new X-Men film).

Now for the interesting part. McWeeny’s report further details the fact that Marvel and Disney have been willing to try and work with other studios (Fox and Sony, probably) to come-up with some sort of deal that would allow for the characters held by those studios (reminder – Fox has the X-Men, while Sony has Spider-Man) to cross-over into an Avengers film.

With this action from Fox, I would imagine there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell we’ll see Wolverine in an Avengers film.

The cause of all this drama comes mostly from the fact that Fox doesn’t want to try and work together to create a larger, more shared world. McWeeny continues that things have been publicly nice between Disney and other studios, but behind closed doors, things are much uglier than we’re being let onto, which has since been confirmed by comics writer Rob Liefeld:

My buddies at FOX confirm that neither studio plays nice with each other. Marvel hated their Fox deal. Oh, and it’s forever btw….

So. Here’s what’s might happen: there’s a good chance we’re about to see a very nasty and potentially very public legal battle between Fox and Marvel over two different versions of the same character.

The world post-Pym-assassination is a strange one, controlled by Morgana Le Fay and Dr. Doom, and sparsely littered with lingering superheroes, including the Hulk and “Colonel America.” With Hippolyta rising from the dead after being murdered by her daughter and Caroline Le Fay (Fearless Defenders readers might recognize her) goading the Amazon to attack Doom’s stronghold, this issue is a punchy, fast-paced one, delivering more of the BAMFy Hippolyta, who’s fast becoming my favorite FD character. I’m glad Age of Ultron is happening as summer arrives, because it’s been great summer reading.

On Monday, we heard rumors about a fourth trailer for Man of Steel being attached to The Hangover: Part III when that third installment of  infamous debauchery releases this weekend. So, color me surprised that Warner Bros. has released the new trailer a few days ahead of time. Focusing on General Zod (Michael Shannon) and the logic behind his invasion of Earth, the trailer is entitled: “Fate of Your Planet.” We’ve embedded the video below.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Briefly: Another day, another bit of information related to ABC and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., as today the network released an extended  trailer for the series, new official photos, and the timeslot for the series: Tuesdays at 8 PM. We’ve included it all below:

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., executive-produced by & Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb, starring Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge will air Tuesdays at 8 PM on ABC, starting this fall.
