Sometimes the start to a great series is as simple as 1, 2, 3, 4. Yet a Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, Matt Wilson, and Clayton Cowles book could never be that simple. The Wicked + The Divine, on its surface, is the tale of gods as pop stars. But a closer inspection details the cost of being a fan and creator of art by asking if it (fame, fortune, glory, etc) was all worth it. Modern in every sense of the word (from its primarily female-led cast, to Hannah Donovan’s design ascetic, McKelvie’s continually innovative visuals and Wilson’s stunning and vibrant colors), W+D reminds us to enjoy what we can while we can. Just because you’re immortal doesn’t mean you’re going to live forever.
