There are no strings on the “Avengers: Age of Ultron” teaser trailer

So we’re a little late to the game on posting the trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron, but if you’re like me, you really don’t need an excuse to watch the trailer again. Or again. Or perhaps even again. Marvel released the trailer last night after it was leaked ahead of its reveal on next week’s Agents of SHIELD (however, that leak gave us one of the best company tweets I’ve ever seen, so bravo).

There’s a lot to discuss here, as the trailer keys into the higher stakes and darker tone that writer/director Joss Whedon has repeated teased. The Avengers already look battered, beaten, and on the ropes against an enemy that looks to test their strength and their willingness to be a team. Speaking of Ultron, James Spader is the real standout here. I was curious about his casting, but he’s already nailed the character so well. All that’s missing now is Ultron’s Army of Brides.

Marvel also released the teaser poster for the film, which looks to be a play on the original teaser poster, but all Ultron-ed out. Take a look:

Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and James Spader. Directed and written by Joss Whedon, the film will release in the US on May 1, 2015.
